Do we know what art is?
We have heard many stories about famous painters hiding different emotions and secrets in their painting, or poems, or anything that is an activity or a product done by people with a communicative or aesthetic purpose – something that expresses an emotion, ideas, or moreover, a world view.
Famous painters like Da Vinci or poets like William Wordsworth and Robert Frost always had something or the other hidden in their context whether written or painted. There is a movie named the Da Vinci Code which was based on Dan Brown’s book which opened so many ways of believing what can be true and what cannot. He made so many possible outcomes out of one painting and circulated the story based on the codes of it. That is an Art. For other painters like Mark Rothko, an American artist who described himself as an “abstract painter”, once said about art that he was not the kind of person interested in the relationship of form, colour, or similar. He did not define himself as an abstractionist, but rather as a person interested only in expressing basic human emotions such as doom, tragedy, ecstasy, and so on.
They say, ‘The more, the merrier’ but that only confuses a person to believe in which definition of art and by whom. Instead one makes up their definition of art. Many people go forward with doodling because they have plenty of patience, or abstract because they want to showcase a message that one does not have the guts to say, or nature, or poetry, and so on. There are so many different forms of art around the world. Every country has millions of artists, which does not only mean drawing or sketching or painting but also dancing, singing, or any talent that that person possesses and wishes to express it not via words but in different forms.
Now as of for me, art is therapy. I do it when I am bored, sad, angry, happy, excited. It is a tool that lets me express my feeling on one page. The art forms that use to ease my mind or to celebrate is by sketching, cooking, and playing instruments. What is art according to you?
